VNU Spring2009 Day 9
Day #9
Agenda
- No visitors - given some of our technical challenges and the limited amount of time to work on assignments, I decided to cancel our plans to have visitors - Sorry :(
- Course Overview Odds & Ends
- Learn about online File Storage with Esnips.com
- Information about tomorrow - Group Discussions and conferences with Jeff
- Continue working on Required & Extra Assignments
Course Overview Odds & Ends
- The new 'Student Work' page is at: http://www.efl537.com/VNU-Spring2009/student_work
Only required assignments will be listed there. I will carefully look at your profile page to find all of your extra assignments, including those posted on Posterous.com, Delicious.com, Slideshare.net, and Esnips.com - All assignments are due by March 22,11:59pm (Vietnam Time). I will continue to check EFL537.com regularly for 'How Do I' questions and other posts until that time.
- Please remember NOT to attach .doc files to your efl537.com posts. Copy and paste the text of the document into the post . Screencast here: http://screencast.com/t/vVtLIJ9gVvo
File Storage with Esnips.com
There are a number of File Storage Sites that allow you to upload large quantities of files that can be shared with the public or kept private. As some of you have noticed, Posterous.com does not support .htm files, so you cannot post Hot Potatoes activities there. Esnips.com allows you to do so.
Look at the Online File Storage Training page and do the tasks described there.
( This is not a required assignment, but it is a useful thing to know and if possible, this will be the best way for you to share your Materials Archive. As described in the screencast, you can upload all of your Materials Archive files into one folder there (no sub-folders for 'media', 'presentations' etc. necessary). If you are unable to use Esnips for some reason, you can post a blog entry and attach screenshots of each sub-folder of the files you've been saving.
Information about tomorrow - Group Discussions and conferences with Jeff
- We
will have small
group discussions again tomorrow.
Change of
Plans.
Because of limited time, we will not have group discussions. I would still be interested to hear you thoughts about the questions below, but answering them is now an optional assignment that can be done alone or with a partner. This can be a written blog post or an audio recording.
- Which CALL tools do you most want to learn more about and how can Jeff help? ( I really do want this course to be 'just a beginning' and will be glad to do what I can to help you take the next few steps after the course has finished)
- What advice do you have for Jeff and/or the VNU staff about how to help future EFL537 students avoid some of the stress and confusion many of you experienced during the first few days of this course?
- (in Vietnamese) Please briefly describe Delicious, Hot Potatoes, Audacity, & Irfanview - what they are and how they are used (in this course and for CALL, in general)
- Conferences with Jeff (also optional)- I want to make sure each student has an opportunity to speak with me about their work or anything else they'd like to discuss. For those who would like to do this via skype, we can have short one-on-one skype conferences. We can discuss the work you've done and address any questions you may have or anything else you'd like to discuss. If you prefer to do this in writing you can either email me or post a blog entry. For the skype calls tomorrow, I suggest using the same machine (perhaps Quy's laptop) with a headset, not speakers.
Use any remaining time to continue working on Required & Extra Assignments
