Reflection Day 5: Teaching Speaking & Pronunciation

Using Technology to Teach Speaking and Pronunciation Skills

Speaking is a productive skill and It is introduced in the third lesson of the unit.

I use a lot of pictures scanned and integrated in my power point presentations and the pictures are shown to students at the pre-speaking stage. Students look at the pictures to discuss problems and or retell the story by using these pictures. This is useful because some topics need visual pictures to elicit them to speak.  Moreover, computers help much in teaching pronunciation. I use the Online dictionary on Online Longman.com to help students with word pronunciation, Learn English 4.1 and Learn English 8.1 softwares to support students with listening to everyday conversations. It seems that it works effectively with my students. I use Pronunciation chart  on the webpage by britishcouncil to help them with producting sounds, minimal pairs.

In short, technology is useful for teachers nowadays in teaching pronunciation and speaking activities.
