Day 7

EFL537, Cohort#3,
Day #7, November 10, 2009
Day #7
| Good Monring. Welcome to Day#7. No new assignments today - just continue working on Week#2 assignments described below. One optional Week#2 skill that may be of use for your final 'CALL Specialization Report/Presentation' is slidecasting. Slidecasting allows you to upload audio narration and sync it to your slideshare presentation. Below is a demonstration and guide of what slidecasting is and how to do it. Again, this is not a required skill, but something you may be interested in trying. |

I enjoyed speaking with some of you yesterday. I encourage anyone else who would like to speak with me about their coursework or any topic to skype me today.
Week#2 Assignments (these are assignments for the whole week, not just today)
The goal of week#2 is for you to focus on the aspects of CALL that you find most interesting and potentially useful in your teaching and to 'document your learning'. By 'documenting your learning' I mean using all of this week's assignments (reading reviews, delicious bookmarks, daily reflections, etc.) to show and tell me what you've learned. I will be available from 8:30am~noon each day to answer questions - please skype me or use the EF537 chat room to make contact.
- Complete the Week#2 Questionnaire
- Continue Exploring the CALL Buffet and adding bookmarks to your Delicious account.
Buy the end of this week you should have at least 30 websites bookmarked and properly tagged in your Delicious account (using EFL related words and 'efl537'). You can use the sites and links listed on the EFL Sites Buffet Page or you can explore on your own. Feel free to share information with your classmates as you make interesting discoveries.
- This week's readings:
You will need to find two more readings that are about a topic (or topics) in which you are especially interested. You will need to search for readings by clicking on links listed on the EFL537 Reading List, the LearningCall.net Readings Index, or by using the Custom Search of CALL related journals.
Before writing your Reading Reviews, please let me know which readings you plan to review by answering the relevant questions in the Week#2 Questionnaire. It asks you to tell me about your topic and the readings you plan to review or if you're having trouble finding readings, it asks you to describe what you are looking for. In your reading reviews, Try to include a discussion of how the topic of the reading applies to CALL, your teaching environment, and how it might affect your practice. Reading Reviews are due Nov. 12. - Continue writing daily reflections on your blogger.com blog. (blogger guide here)
By the end of the course, you should have at least 8 reflection. Feel free to post other assignments and personal writings as well.
- Materials Archive - I want you to find and save web pages, activities, audio recordings, videos, and other materials that you can use to teach English, even if you are using a computer that isn't connected to the Internet. See the course overview for details of how to save these files.
- CALL Specialization Report/Presentation - This is a summary of what you spent most of Week#2 focusing on. It can be a written report, slide presentation, and/or audio recording discussing the area of CALL you focused on during Week#2. Include links to any relevant readings, resources, or websites. Due November 14.
- Week#2 Skills
All Week#2 Technical Skills are OPTIONAL! These guides are here so that you can learn about these skills if you wish, but if you are not interested in a particular skill or you find it very difficult or stressful, I don't want you to waste your time and energy on it. I'd much rather you focus on further developing skills you've already learned or focusing on other Week#2 assignments that are more meaningful to you.
