Installing and Using Audacity

There is an extra step when installing Audacity.  You only need to do it the first time you use the program, but it necessary in order to export .mp3 files.
If Audacity is not installed on your computer, this  screencast  shows how to install Audacity.

The screencast below shows how to use Audacity.

Once Audacity is installed, configure the following preferences
Edit/Preferences/Audio I/O, select 'mono'.

When you first export an .mp3 file, you'll need to set the 'bitrate' to 32kbs.  This will  make the filesize smaller, so it is easier to upload the website.
To do so, click 'File/Export'
Type your name and a 'Track Title' when you see the 'Edit Metadata' window. Then click OK.

You should then see the 'Exprot File' window (shown below).
Save as type 'mp3 files'.
Then click 'Options' and select 32kbs for quality and then click OK.

Task
Record a 1-2 minute audio introduction.
Begin by saying,
"Hello, this is 'nickname'.  My complete name is '......' and my EFL537 ID is vnu#. "
(Example: Hello, this is Jeff.  My complete name is Jeffery Alan Lebow and my EFL537 ID is vnu18.)
Then tell me anything you like about yourself, your work, your studies, and/or your family.

When you are finished, edit the audio (if necessary), and export it as an mp3.  Please name the file 'vnu#-introduction.mp3'.
Then upload it to the EFL537.com website by clicking 'Create/Audio'.
For Title, enter 'Your Name Introduction'
For Body, write a short descripion of your audio.
Then click 'browse', find the mp3 file you just saved and then submit.

If you finish before others, take a look at some of the resources below.
